Fully Integrated Mixed Methods Research

This site includes information that will be of use to researchers interested in mixed methods and to instructors who teach it through workshops, online modules, and courses. The page includes links to blog posts, videos, publications, and materials for instructors including lesson plans. The lesson plans can be used individually or as a group. Each reflects an approach to mixed methods that emphasizes the contribution to validity of mixing during analysis.

In addition to my infatuation with fully integrated mixed methods research, I play around with a blog that offers advice about navigating academe, including about how to be strategic about the writing you produce. Link to blog: https://academicwriting.blog

An Introduction to Fully Integrated Mixed Methods Research.
Intro to Fully Integrated Mixed Methods Research

An Introduction to Fully Integrated Mixed Methods Research (SAGE, 2018) has received international attention as a textbook that is useful in an introductory graduate level research methods course. With 27 reviews, it is rated 4.8 of 5.0 on Amazon. Famed Johnny Saldana called it the “best mixed methods text in print.” It carries an emphasis on design and the foundational literature about mixed methods research, while being unusual in devoting three chapters to mixing during analysis. The emphasis on integration extends to providing the first rubric to evaluate mixed methods research that includes criteria related to mixing. It introduces the idea of mixed priority.

Advancing Grounded Theory with Mixed Methods
Advancing Grounded Theory with Mixed Methods

Recent additions to the webpage include materials to support a new resource published by Routledge, Advancing Grounded Theory with Mixed Methods (2021).This book builds an argument for MM-GTM as a distinct methodology where an interactive mixed method logic can be applied to grounded theory procedures like theoretical sampling, coding, memo writing, and through the construction of grounded visualizations. A whole chapter is devoted to interrogating dissonance for theoretical insight. Link to a PDF for a summary of the key themes for each chapter.

Visual Displays in Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research (Routledge, 2024) is my most recent book. Its aim is encourage more experimentation with visual displays throughout the research process from the planning stage, through data collection, analysis and reporting. The book includes over 50 examples of visual displays that integrate data, most that were published in qualitative journals. There is a link to a summary of the key points by chapter.
